For The First Time, Nvidia Names Huawei As Its Top Rival In A Filing

In a late-Wednesday filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Nvidia named Huawei as a top rival in a number of sectors, including artificial intelligence chips.

According to the Santa Clara, California-based corporation, Huawei, a Chinese company, is a competitor in the supply of artificial intelligence-related chips, including networking chips, graphics processing units (GPUs), and central processing units (CPUs). In order to enhance AI computing, the company also recognised Huawei as a cloud service provider that creates its own hardware and software.

There were no comments from Nvidia on the issue.

As a competitor to Nvidia's AI processor lineup, Huawei created the Ascend series of chips. The primary competitor of Nvidia's A100 chip, which was introduced approximately three years ago, is the Chinese company's flagship offering, the 910B processor.

Analysts have pegged the value of China's AI chip market at $7 billion.

Prior to the U.S. government's much-anticipated new regulations tightening limitations on advanced AI chips transferred to China, there were indications last year that the Chinese search giant Baidu had placed an order with Huawei for processors.

Nvidia also mentioned Qualcomm, Broadcom, Advanced Micro Devices, and Intel as competitors. The chip manufacturer also named a number of significant cloud computing firms, including Microsoft and Amazon.com.

Early on Thursday afternoon, Nvidia's stock price spiked 14% as the business exceeded consensus projections for sales and continued to see strong demand for artificial intelligence.
