Now Volvo EVs Can Use Tesla Superchargers

In order to grant its electric vehicles (EVs) access to Tesla's Supercharger network in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, Swedish automaker Volvo Cars announced on Tuesday that it had reached an agreement with the EV manufacturer.

With this agreement, Volvo becomes the first European automaker to use Tesla's North American Charging Standard (NACS), joining a growing list of EV manufacturers and charging equipment suppliers that have already adopted the technology.

It added that drivers who wish to use the Combined Charging System (CCS) will be able to do so with an adaptor provided by the firm. Volvo automobiles in the three nations will be equipped with the NACS port beginning in 2025.

Following Ford's statement from last month, Rivian Automotive Inc. and General Motors, both based in California, said earlier this month that they will implement the charging design.

According to the U.S. Department of Energy, Tesla's Superchargers make up around 60% of all fast chargers in the country.

Its latest agreements mark significant advancements in the fight against rival standard CCS, which had previously only received support from President Joe Biden's administration.

To hasten the installation of EV chargers in the United States, the government is providing $7.5 billion in subsidies.
