Japanese auto manufacturer Honda Motor Co is set to launch four separate campaigns, including some that are linked to reported fires of its vehicles, in order to implement a global recall of more than 1.79 million vehicles of the company.
About 1.4 million of those vehicles that are slated to be recalled are form the United States, the Japanese company said.
268,000 CR-V vehicles in the United States that were manufactured between 2002 and 2006 would be covered by one of the recall campaigns, said the Japanese auto maker. Those vehicles would be get their power window master switches replaced by the company. While this defect in the vehicles has not caused any injury to any person so far, Honda said that this recall was in response to 16 reported fires involving the vehicles.
In 2012, a recall campaign for the power window master switches was conducted by the company. The latest recall by the company was related to moisture related failures of switches that the company had repaired when it had recalled the vehicles on the previous occasion.
Additionally, about 735,000 Accord and Accord Hybrid vehicles form the United States manufactured between 2018 and 2020 is also being recalled by the company along with Insight vehicles manufacture between 2019 and 2020. All of these vehicles will get an update of the Body Control Module software in the vehicles. In the case of a programming flaw in the Body Control Module software, it could disrupt communication which can result in several warning lights getting illuminated unnecessarily as well as cause malfunction of electronic components including “the rear view camera display, turn signals and windshield wipers”, Honda said.
Two other recalls for an approximate 430,000 vehicles of the company from the United States, mainly from 22 states of the country and the District of Columbia, will also be implemented. The company said that these vehicles have significant road salt use and the company would inspect the front drive shafts of the vehicles and potentially also replace them if needed. These recalls are related to any possible breakage of the drive shafts because of continuous corrosion. The company said that there have been no reports of any injuries to people because of the faults in these recalls.
The company currently does not have access to repair parts for all vehicles involved in the drive shaft recalls, Honda said.
The recalls cover some 2012 Honda Civic Hybrid, 2007-2014 Honda Fit, 2013-2015 Acura ILX as well as 2013 Acura ILX Hybrid and 2013-2015 Honda Accord vehicles.
No crashes have been reported in the drive shaft or software recalls.
