Trump Hints Possibility Of Singapore Meet, Says 'Very Productive' Talks With North Korea Ongoing

Even after willing away the proposed summit level talks between him and the North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, U.S. President Donald Trump has against said that dialogue with North Korea has been restarted. Trump even suggested that a summit meeting may even happen at the earlier set date and place.

Trump had called off the summit level talks in a letter earlier in the week following a number of adverse comments by North Korea which clearly indicated that the regime is not ready to end its nuclear program. South Korea was taken by surprise by the cancellation and its officials were left attempting to mend the ends.

But Trump had left some scope for the talks in the future and a day later he hinted at the possibilities of future talks by keeping the lines of communication open.

"We'll see what happens. We're talking to them now," he told reporters as he left the White House. He further added that the North Korean meeting “could” still happen.

Trump said that the two parties sides were engaged in "very productive" talks and a reconciliation in Singapore could still be possible.

June 12 is the date that the two leaders were supposed to meet. U.S. is hopeful that the talks could be the start of a process that would ultimately lead North Korea to give up its nuclear program and missile programs. In case the meeting happens, it would be the fit time that a U.S/. president would hold any meeting with a North Korean leader.

North Korea's "tremendous anger and open hostility" was denounced by Trump on Thursday. During the preceding week, direct communication with Washington was stopped by North Korea, said a senior White House official.
Top of Form
Pyongyang is "willing to give the U.S. time and opportunities" to review negotiations "at any time, at any format" , said Kim Kye-gwan, a North Korean official in a statement that was issued on Thursday after Trump cancelled the summit. Kim added that "we remain unchanged in our willingness to do everything we can for the peace and stability of the Korean Peninsula and of the humanity."

It was "very good news" to get a "warm and productive" comment from North Korea where the North Korean authorities have indicated a willingness to reconsider talks, Trump tweeted o
n Friday morning.

Trump had also stressed while calling off the summit that he desired a peaceful resolution and that there was still scope for talks. He said "nobody should be anxious" despite the summit has bene cancelled.

"If and when Kim Jong Un chooses to engage in constructive dialogue and actions, I am waiting. In the meantime, our very strong sanctions, by far the strongest sanctions ever imposed, and maximum pressure campaign will continue as it has been continuing," Trump said.
