As Local Firms Take The Lead In The Chinese Smartphone Industry, Apple Is No Longer One Of The Top 5 Sellers
According to a Canalys research, Apple was pushed out of the top five smartphone suppliers' list in China in the second quarter as competition from local manufacturers like Huawei grew.

According to a survey issued on Thursday, Apple's market share in China decreased to 14% in the second quarter from 15% in the first and 16% in the same time the previous year.

According to CNBC estimations, the iPhone maker, which was the third-largest provider of smartphones in the second quarter of last year, fell to the sixth position with around 9.7 million in shipments.

"This is the first quarter in history that domestic vendors hold all five of the top spots," Canalys research analyst Lucas Zhong stated.

Since the first quarter, when they fell 25% year over year to 10 million devices, Apple's shipments have been decreasing.

The techniques employed by Chinese vendors to produce high-end goods and their close ties to regional supply chains are beginning to pay off in terms of hardware and software features. The most recent Magic V3 from Honour, which makes use of GenAI, has greatly improved the foldable tablet user experience, Zhong continued.

But in order to "stabilise retail prices and protect margins of channel partners," he claimed, Apple is encountering a "bottleneck" in the Chinese market.

According to Canalys, localising Apple Intelligence services for the Chinese market will be crucial in the upcoming year since Chinese companies are putting a lot of effort into adding generative AI into their products.

Vivo returned to the top of the market from April to June, shipping 13.1 million devices and holding a 19% market share. This was made possible by robust physical and online sales during the "618" e-commerce festival.

With 11.3 million sales, Oppo managed to hold onto second position, helped by the introduction of its new Reno 12 series. Third place went to Huawei offshoot Honour, which delivered 10.7 million phones, up 4% from the previous year.

With a 15% market share and 10.6 million units shipped, Huawei finished fourth. A year prior, it had not cracked the top five. In China, Huawei's consumer business has rebounded with the release of the Mate 60 smartphone.

According to Canalys, Xiaomi moved up to the fifth position because to the success of its first electric vehicle, the SU7, which also helped the company's K70 and flagship 14 series sales.

According to Canalys, the Chinese smartphone market expanded by 10% year over year in the second quarter, with shipments surpassing 70 million devices.
